A remarkable and unique discovery was made by Joseph R Kelso in the Nevada desert in 1989 which led to the development of a privately owned and funded research company to explore the exciting potential of the discovery.

In the mid-nineties European Superconductor Supply, Ltd was formed in the UK at Stanstead to process and manufacture a unique superconductor metallurgical product. The raw material came from mines owned by the conglomerate parent company and located in the Southwest United States. There were facilities in Reno, Nevada, USA for the pre-processing and shipping of the raw material to the United Kingdom.

By 1998 282 tons of raw material has been shipped and ESS, Ltd at Stanstead was producing electronic purities and producing 100lbs of the material a day with inventories of 19 tons.

The Founder, Joseph R Kelso, is responsible for the discovery of the processes that have been developed to achieve the high temperature superconductivity of materials never before seen.

During the period of 1996-1998, a National U.S. lab certified the material as ROOM TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTOR. This certification was confirmed by the U.S. DOD, the UK MOD and top collaborating electronics firms around the world.

Joseph Kelso entered into a private treaty with the British Government with these technologies. The operation was turned over to the European Spallation Source (ESS). By 1990 a technical study demonstrated the feasibility of the material as a spallation source which, with 5 MW, exceeds the neutrons intensity of ISIS by a factor of 30.

The discoveries made at European Superconductor Supply, Ltd. (ESS) at Stanstead in the area of molecular science encompass the elusive Higgs boson (sometime referred to as the "God Particle”).

The particle, which was predicted by theory but had never been detected, is thought to give all other forms of matter their mass, and is the last missing piece in the theory of the universe known as the Standard Model.

The research by ESS has many practical applications, not just in the area of superconductors, but apply across a wide range of disciplines within the natural sciences of Physics, Chemistry, Earth sciences and Biology, including, but not limited to, Energy, Magnetics, Agriculture, Medical and Pharmaceutical.
